Me, Myself, And I...

picalttag

'The Evolving Self' by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. I found this book interesting, thought provoking, and at times disturbing and even depressing. What is most significant about this work is its exploration of the veils that our culture and its members live with, and what could be beyond them. It summarizes the concept of Flow and then takes us beyond into what we can actually do in communities to make a difference in the evolutionary epic. I find this book to be very practical.

'Thoughts From The Heart Of The Soul' by Gary Zukav. I keep a copy of this eBook on my computer. Almost every single day I randomly flip to another page and read its message. I am amazed to find how many times I end up flipping to the same page! I am convinced that this book is helping me to face life's issues every time I look at it. A very inspirational book! This book is an excellent meditative companion for those who have read Gary Zukav's other books--"Seat of the Soul," "The Heart of the Soul," and "The Mind of the Soul" as well as "Soul Stories" and "The Dancing Wu Li Masters." If you have read any of theses eBook Titles then ad this to your collection. Below is a Coupon Code to receive a Discount on either of these two eBook Titles.

The Mind Is A Wonderful Thing

picalttag

'The Family That Couldn't Sleep' by D.T. Max. This eBook was so fascinating, I was compelled to email the author and congratulate him on his work. The Family That Couldn't Sleep tells the thought provoking story of an emerging medical mystery that is likely to affect all of us in our lifetime. Woven into the story are fascinating details regarding the history, politics and evolving research of a potential health related epidemic in our country. Max is able to communicate a complex disease phenomena in a gripping fashion that is also accessible to lay people such as myself...medical degree not required!
'The Emotion Machine:' by Marvin Minsky. Humans can of course think in multiple domains. Indeed, a good human chess player can also be a good mathematician or a good chef. The ability to think in multiple domains has been christened as "commonsense" by many psychologists and professional educators, and those skeptical of the possibility of machine intelligence. It is thought by many that in order for a machine to be considered as truly intelligent or even indeed to possess any intelligence at all, it must possess "commonsense", in spite of the vague manner in which this concept is frequently presented in both the popular and scientific literature. On a lighter note, below there is a Coupon Code so you can receive a Discount on these two eBook Titles.

The Emotion Machine: Commonsense Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, and the Future of the Human Mind eBook edition by Minsky, Marvin
"In this mind-expanding book, scientific pioneer Marvin Minsky continues his groundbreaking research, offering a fascinating new model for how our minds work. He argues persuasively that emotions, intuitions, and feelings are not distinct things, but different ways of thinking. By examining these different forms of mind activity, Minsky says, we can explain why our thought sometimes takes the form of carefully reasoned analysis and at other times turns to emotion. He shows how our minds progress from simple, instinctive kinds of thought to more complex forms, such as consciousness or self-awareness.

The Nose Knows

picalttag

'Scent of Desire' by Rachel Herz. ... The nose knows. Pity olfaction, the least celebrated of the five senses: In one poll, people ranked smell as the sense they'd mind losing the least. But, says Herz (Psychology/Brown Univ.), one of a handful of researchers doing groundbreaking work on the psychology of smell, the ability to smell the world around us shapes and informs every part of our lives-particularly our emotional existence. When robbed of a sense of smell-whether through head injury, severe depression or other cause-we lose a vital connection to the material world and its sensual pleasures. In thoughtful and accessible writing, Herz explains why it is that smells act as such direct conduits to emotional memories. Herz explains "why we smell" is perhaps the most fascinating. Smell not only underlies the ability to tell which meat is rotten and which is fresh, but also potently affects sexual attraction, and not as Coco Chanel might have thought (the grand dame of fashion once said, "Without perfume, women have no future."). Before you apply deodorant tomorrow morning, consider that it is in fact the natural body odors we spend so much time trying to cloak informs us of who we will choose to mate with and who we will avoid. A delightfully unexpected blend of personal anecdotes, pop-cultural erudition and scientific understanding.
'Shyness' my Bernardo J. Carducci. This is the first book I've read on shyness and it's written very well. It seems that books like this are either written for an audience of Ph.D's who perform social research for a living, or for an audience with an 8th grade education. This book is neither - it delivers straight forward content in an articulate fashion that is both easy to grasp and enjoyable to read. I have tried several of the techniques described in the book and so far have had some pretty good luck. Those of you who know me don't know that I'm pretty shy. I guess my secrets out. Be sure to check below for the Discount Code to receive a Discount on these two eBook titles.

Scent of Desire, The eBook edition by Herz, Rachel
The first and definitive book on the psychology of smell, The Scent of Desire traces the importance of smell in our lives, from nourishment to procreation to our relationships with the people closest to us and the world at large. Smell was the very first sense to evolve and is located in the same part of the brain that processes emotion, memory, and motivation. To our ancestors, the sense of smell wasn't just important, it was crucial to existence and it remains so today. Our emotional, physical, even sexual lives are profoundly shaped by both our reactions to and interpretations of different smells.

Useless Information and Heaven

picalttag

Do you think we need to know Useless information when we get to Heaven? These two eBooks do not have much in common but I found them to be entertaining and thoughtful. I read these two titles based on the reviews. The book of Useless Information is just that... Useless but a fun read and it's nice to be able to casually throw in an interesting fact about a topic at a party or get together that most likely nobody knows about. I found it to boost my ego a bit for people perceive you as the guy/gal who knows things... Yeah ok... The topic that nobody really knows about is what is Heaven like. Sure there are multitudes of books out there that talk about near death experiences but I found that 90 Minutes in Heaven was sincere and believable. However, not enough to look forward to experience the glories of heaven (Yet). I can wait my turn, whenever that may be. I will say that after reading this eBook I now have some tools that will help if I loose a loved one or dealing with death. I recommend this eBook for it may put death or tragedy in a better place for you mentally. Check out the coupon code at the bottom of this Blog for a discount on these two titles.

But to The Useless Information Society, any fact that passes its gasp-inducing, not-a-lot-of-people-know-that test merits inclusion in this fascinating but ultimately useless book... Did you know (or do you care)... --That fish scales are used to make lipstick? --Why organized crime accounts for ten percent of the United States's annual income? --The name of the first CD pressed in the United States? --The last year that can be written upside-down or right side-up and appear the same? --The shortest performance ever nominated for an Oscar? --How much Elvis weighed at the time of his death? --What the suits in a deck of cards represent? --How many Quarter Pounders can be made from one cow? --How interesting useless information can be? The Book of Useless Information answers these teasers and is packed with facts and figures that will captivate you--and anyone who shares your joy in the pursuit of pointless knowledge

The Energy Healing Experiments: Science Reveals Our Natural Power to Heal eBook edition
by Schwartz, Gary, E.
A healer removes the pain of a broken wrist in fifteen minutes. Another removes an ovarian tumor in a couple of weeks. Still another, from thousands of miles away, regenerates the nerves of an injured spine for a patient on whom the doctors had given up. These sound like tabloid stories but could they be true? They are just three out of millions of instances in which healers have claimed to manipulate energy fields to cure the body. Books on vibrational medicine, prayer, and spiritual healing present readers with an array of historical and current discoveries and techniques. But so far nobody has addressed the reality of healing through comprehensive scientific research. The Energy Healing Experiments fills that void. Harvard- educated Dr. Gary E. Schwartz provides scientific experiments and evidence to reveal the truth about the existence of energy fields and unlocks their potential for enhancing your health.
